An amputee living alone in his family home his mother left to him when she passed away 20 years ago. Temporary housing is running out and he has no family on the island to stay with. His home was completely filled with muddy water, he lost nearly everything he owned, getting out just in time with the help of his neighbors. Being tossed around in the FEMA system he still has no path home. Please help this amazing human being come back to a safe home.

For over eight years, she has called her family’s land home. Born and raised on the North Shore, this part-owner of her family’s property at Otake Camp has deep roots in the land her children have grown up on. But after the last devastating flood brought eight to ten feet of water rushing through their home, everything she has worked to hold together is slipping away. The night of the flood is not something she will easily forget. Within minutes of the water rising, it came crashing in like a tidal wave. In the chaos, her son was swept away. She and her family managed to pull him to safety, but the trauma of nearly losing him lingers in every conversation she has since had trying to rebuild their lives. Their home is no longer livable. It needs major repairs. And yet, help has been nearly impossible to find. She has been denied by FEMA and her insurance provider, not because she doesn’t qualify, but because of a painful family conflict over property ownership. An uncle, living on the property without legal standing, reached out to relief organizations and government agencies in his own name — collecting funds meant to help the family recover. Because someone had already filed and received assistance for the property, she was disqualified. She is the legal resident. She is the one who stayed. She is the one whose children know no other home. The organizations meant to protect people like her have, one by one, turned her away. The transitional housing she has been relying on — Airbnbs and hotels to keep her children off the street — is no longer sustainable. The FEMA-assisted housing in Wahiawa is on the verge of removing them because FEMA denied her claim. She came to Ohana Restore as a last resort. During the call, she was emotional, exhausted, and quietly desperate — not for herself alone, but for her kids, for the only place they have ever called home. This family has already survived the unthinkable. Now they just need a safe place to land.

She has worked to find ways and get loans for all her 35k in repairs except this last little bit that she needs help paying the contractor to finish. She has water come in her ceiling and damage all the sheetrock on the ceiling, electrical, and some flooring. A family of 11 sustained drastic damage when the rain caused a big hole in the ceiling and the water came pouring in and flooded the entire living room. Then it traveled through the ceiling to the other rooms creating mold throughout the home. The rain took out some foundation blocks as well. At the same time after the event, they are sheltered 5 families including young children, in tents and with a makeshift outdoor shower after they lost their entire homes to 8 feet of water in them - they opened their land for a safe haven while trying to sort through what to do. All 11 family members are living in an on site 2 bedroom Ohana home on site while waiting for help.

They filed an insurance claim, and the insurance company’s contractor came out and removed the flooring, drywall, and ceilings throughout the home. Then the insurance company denied coverage, citing an exterior water exclusion — leaving the family with an open, mold-filled structure and no path forward. They are currently displaced in an Airbnb with two weeks remaining in their temporary housing. The financial toll is heavy, and time is running out.
